HURRIED STEPS will be at the Cockpit Theatre, in London, on 20th November 2012 at 11.00 a.m. as part of Arts of Wellbeing. This event will investigate the relationship between health and the therapeutic effect of art.
The powerful hour-long play is inspired by testimonies from Amnesty International and retells eight stories from around the world. It was originally created for Amnesty International to spark a global debate and the stark, no-frills performance is written to stimulate an hour-long discussion between the audience and a panel of local fieldworkers and experts in the field of domestic abuse.
HURRIED STEPS was first produced in association with the Finborough Theatre and has toured the UK for three years, stimulating discussion and raising funds for local women’s refuges.
HURRIED STEPS is a powerful hour-long play, based on testimonies from real women. It recounts eight stories inspired by facts reported by Amnesty International and is written by the Italian writer, Dacia Maraini. She has spent her career investigating women's issues and has written a UK story exclusively for this production.
The director, Nicolette Kay’s previous credits include Dacia Maraini’s ‘Mary Stuart’ at BAC “Nicolette Kay directs the often exhilarating proceedings…a production of character.” The Guardian; and ‘Love Child’ by Joanna Murray-Smith at The Finborough Theatre “Two fine performances in Nicolette Kay's gripping but measured production." Evening Standard. She was in the premiere of Anthony Minghella’s ‘Love Bites’ and ‘With All My Love I Hate You’ by Lynda La Plante.
New Shoes Theatre is proud to be a part of “16 Days” a programme of global events to mark efforts to end violence against women.
“The stories are hair-raising…..this is an important step… small as it… is to raise the consciousness of the world to this endless existing problem. It’s BEAUTIFUL work from the Finborough, the actors, director and designers..” Blanche Marvin, London Theatreviews
“You cannot help but feel sadness at the stories, and that makes you want to go out and do something.” Jafa Iqbal, EXTRA! EXTRA!
Tickets are FREE and therefore important to book early.
Tickets can also be booked by calling the Cockpit box-office on 0207 258 2925 or by email: reception@thecockpit.org.uk
There will be a retiring collection for the local women’s refuge.
